However, there are significant issues that disrupt user joy.Ģ.) it says it works offline, but because it works so slowly, I don’t trust that it works offline The idea for the app to turn docs into “mini apps” is absolutely a fantastic design implementation. My rating of the app does not reflect my rating of the CODA serviceĬoda is amazing. Feel free to reach out if you are interested in chatting more about it.
The examples when you press the plus button on the doc list try to illustrate the kinds of things you can build. The idea with this is that you can create a doc that is as powerful as an app on desktop and then use and edit it on your phone. So that is why we released it before adding every feature Coda has to offer. If we tried to rebuild every desktop feature from the start, that would have taken a lot more time and we felt that using and editing documents delivered its own value apart from being able to create them from scratch. What tutorial are you referring to? I definitely want to make sure we aren't misleading people into thinking we have features in the app that we don't.įor this first version of the app, we limited the scope to be about viewing, using, and editing the documents you create on desktop.
The latest update includes an iPad optimized version, so I would suggest trying it again.Ģ) I definitely want to get to the bottom of where you got the impression there should be a plus button. I appreciate the feedback.ġ) on your point about the iPad version, we heard you and prioritized finishing that. Hey, I'm Jeremy - the designer at Coda who worked on the app. Rating this 2 stars because it looks nice, but shouldn’t even be that high.Įven on the website there are screenshots of apps like the Project Tacker and there is no sidebar on the iPad like there is on the screenshots they show on the website. Touching elements doesn’t always work and the site header disappears sometimes when I am typing. The website itself is also not easy to use on an iPad. Maybe that is a paid feature, but they’re website says everything is free. Can’t do much with that and basically makes this app useless. There is only a text format bar when you start typing. Additionally, there is no “+” button on the screen to add a table or any other elements, as the tutorials claim there to be. I’ve updated my rating from 2 stars to 4. Hopefully that will change in the future. Once you’ve finished a page, Coda has all the advanced FTP support to get your pages on to a remote server.Ĭoda 2.7.Update: upon further investigation this app only works fully in the Chrome browser. You can tweak the CSS real-time and see how it appears in the live preview. For example, if you upload your files to a remote company server, sub-versioning enables you to upload new documents as a new version, checking in/out each document, rather than overwriting a file that another user has contributed.Īs most sites are now completely CSS-driven, Coda has this covered too, enabling to quickly and easily develop your CSS for each page. If you work with other users, Coda enables you to share the same documents between a team. It also ships with a number of books and reference material which you can use to help master your code, whilst you produce your pages. Whilst you’re coding up your page, you get a live preview of the website, so you can quickly see what you’re doing.
Yes, it’s a superb application, but you’ll only ever go so far unless you get to grips with the code behind each page.Ĭoda is an old-fashioned coding tool that enables web designers and developers to quickly and easily put together the pages, from scratch. Indeed, there are some amateur web designers who will charge a company when they simply produce their website through tools such as RapidWeaver. There are many applications out there that will enable you to produce websites, with ease.
